Smart Nation Research Centre – SPIRIT is a Singapore Government funded R&D centre located at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). SPIRIT performs translational research on challenging technological problems faced by Smart Nation systems. The centre also works on Internet-of-Things (IoT) threat analytics cybersecurity projects funded by Singapore Cyber Security Agency (CSA). To better understand our threat landscape and real-world deployment vulnerabilities of Smart Nation IoT devices, "SpiritCyber 2023" was organized as part of the learning journey. The event took place during the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) under the International IoT Security Roundtable (IIOTSR) segment. Renowned Cyber Analysts and White Hats from the industry were invited to take part in the 3-day cyber exercise to help discover cyber weaknesses in our mimic in-house Smart Nation cyber-physical system.

I had the privilege to partner with SPIRIT, CSA and Bakkhos Labs to set up the hackathon and challenges for the participating experts. This hackathon featured two different categories, with the first segment focusing on exploiting consumer IoT devices, and the second on attacking an enterprise-grade Smart Lamp Post. The privilege to host the event with these extinguished partners helped me to gain deep insights into the realm of CTFs and IoT devices as well as an incredible learning experience to work with experts in their fields.
